1/52 mythical creatures

Here we go then! :) This is the first one, of a bunch of rusałkas - they are slavic creatures that live in the forests, near lakes and streams. They are beautiful, have green hair and will dance you to death. In Poland there is a holiday called "Zielone Świątki" (Green Holidays). It is one of those holidays that have been celebrated by pagan ancestors before catholicism appeared - and originally celebrated these creatures. People would put up feasts for them and dance around bonfires (and apparentely some people sitll do). Currently officially it's Pentecost, a holiday which I personally never really understood. In Poland most people will call it Zielone Świątki.

little foresty

As per usual the new years resolution to update more often is not working too well!
But it's ok I was actually pretty busy with really boring things (i.e. tax return).

Now I should have more time for exciting things :)

I am going to start a new series of weekly drawings with mythical creatures. If there are any you particularly love, let me know so I will add them to my list. The list is currently not very long... But I would like to do at least 52 of them (an easier take on the 365 trees thing). So far I have one image nearly finished and a few more planned. Before that tho I have some little drawings of forests and lichens. Weather is no even remotely wintery, it feels like one could go mushroom picking...

Happy New Year!!!

So this is the first picture I drew this year!

I hope the year is not going to be all like the 1st, as the rain is pouring out there! On the other hand I am cosy next to a real fire, drawing and chilling. I guess it could be worse :)

My main plan for this year is that I want to do a similar thing to 365 trees... But one a week. Theme is yet to be decided, but I think it will start by Sunday ;)

Photoetching

On Saturday I did a photoetching class at Edinburgh Printmakers.

I love printmaking - the idea of it, as I have always been obsessed with work that can be reproduced/be multiple copies of the same thing. I have tried woodblock, lino, drypoint, some monoprints (that I didn't really like because they were... mono prints), screenprinting (big love)... But I never did any etching based things. And this course I booked thinking it was actually something slightly different (that also uses photec), I did  in in the spur of the moment really. And not regretting one bit, quite the opposite :)

It was AMAZING fun, as I have never done any etching before. But this being something between screenprinting and intaglio... My geek mode certainly kicks in ;)
I am now also working on a series of drawings that I think will all slowly turn into photoetchings... I just love it THAT much. It feels like a whole new world of opportunities has opened :)

Actually, there is no story here really. I will have some more inbetween process pictures next time... Or maybe a picture of a plate?

Anyway - the course at Edinburgh Printmakers was fantastic and I just kind of want to do more! 

Bisonmania

Recentely something new appeared in my life. Bisons. I mean, they were always in my heart but few weeks ago Riennahera has shown me this link: BISONS LIVE FEED. I am not normally into this sort of live feed stuff, but this - this was different. It contains mighty big beasts of animals! And then I had this idea: Why not do some lifedrawing out of that? So here are some results. It was mainly bisons but there was a cheeky brave boar too.

 It was: pens, inks, watercolours, some also digitally pampered up. Yo.

Bear-ry picking!

I did this one few weeks ago, attempt at a story told by one of my colleagues - as her granny once went berry picking and met an unusual companion (that you probably want to avoid).

Toffo's off for another adventure. Space for Illustration Friday! I kinda didn't want to illustrate space as in planets and stars.

Secret! (+interview)

She's hiding some secret in the woods! (It's kinda shiny and we will never know what it is. Unlike the three animals on the page that are almost-hidden). Another jolly Illustration Friday topic, which I wish I have had the chance to finish earlier. But better last minute than not done at all! I must say I am quite happy with where my drawings have been going lately.

The weather here is absolutely horrid, so I think I am going to draw some rainy pictures. And there was a forecast for a thunderstorm for tomorrow at 16 hours, but now it's been cancelled! I was looking forward to that. There's nothing better than a good summer storm! (I bet a lot of people can think of millions of better things).

On a completely unrelated note, however a very jolly one, the lovely peeps at Vivid Please decided to interview me! Go and read and adore them as much as I do! :)

And lastly, I have purchased a new inkjet printer, which will hopefully allow me to make lots of pretty art things. I bet you all can't wait.

The birch that really exists

 This is one of the 365 trees thing I am doing at the moment.This one is the number 67!

This is the original tree it was based on - not all of them are actually based on a real one, but this one grows near to where my grandparents live! :) (Also, mind my socks, haha)

Finally an IF theme that got the cogs in my brain moving ;) I think this is my first one this year. I missed making something bigger again, and this one is a little smaller than A3. It was quite fun. I love working with ink! Even though there ws a little obstacle, as my white ink has decided to solidify without any warning.

Drawing lots of trees :)

So I have decided to do this for REAL. Nearly two weeks ago I started doing this "a ... a day for a year" thing, and my own "..." is tree. You can find them (nearly) daily HERE.

Here are some samples...

 At the moment I feel they are just following a certain pattern, but I am curious to see how they will change over time... Because I am sure that they will! After all this has only been a couple of weeks, and there WILL be loads for sure! :)

Some of the ones I like better have also been turned into brooches...

I haven't been posting much lately as I was busy with working on new things. In the meantime I took some new pictures of the birdies I already have. Here are: Bullfinch, Chaffinch and Goldfinch! They are all available on Etsy.

Foresty drawing

Now, this is just a picture I drew because I wanted to draw and then scan some liny patterns. They ended up being the grass, as I couldn't stop going :P

Today I saw a man in the best (weird) hat ever. It didn't just have a feather decoration - it pretty much was covered with an entire pheasant. I really want to draw him now, so just wait for that!

Out of the Blue Arts Market!

Yesterday I shared a stall at Out of the Blue Arts Market with Claire Macleod. It was really good fun, as she's a lovely lady and it was just generally quite a successful day! Will afford to get a Christmas present for the boyfriend ;)

I said goodbye (among other things) to two paintings. One was the Wolf Hat and other one I haven't published here yet, so there it is:
