It's essentially a Kelpie. A horrible horrible creature that does horrible things....

Now this took a while to complete :P I am not 100% happy with it but I am glad it's finished. So I can move on to the next thing and also... I officially started finishing stuff :)

11. Strzyga - the slavic vampire

This is the creature I was fearing when I was a child. My grandmother used to tell me about these monsters. They were normal humans, but born with 2 rows of teeth. When they died they had to be buried face down, because otherwise they would chew their way out of the grave... And become undead monsters! When you are aged 5 and someone as reputable as your gran tells you this - of course you belive. There were other monsters she told me about too but this one was the most memorable one.

Although there are versions that they had two hearts and the second one would start beating when the person died. This is one I decided to draw :)

10 Griffin

This creature kind of makes me want to play Heroes of Might and Magic 3 ;)

It's in the coat of arms of the region of Poland I am from, and now that I looked it up I feel like my attempt at a griffin does not do it justice...

Haha I might actually re-do it at some point...

9/52 KRAKEN!

Kraken is one of my fave creatures ever. I have a soft spot for cephalopods, and the fantastically gigantic one is just so fab! :) One can argue they really exist - well, they do, but I don't think one large enough to drown a ship was ever spotted.

I am not in much of a writing mood. So this is phoenix - I think everyone knows this guy? I think this is one of my favourite ones so far :)

6/52 Mermaid

Ok, at long last this is here! I had a funny week and a lot of work so this got quite delayed.

If you can find a little girl that does not like mermaids... I will not give you a prize, but I am sure there aren't many out there. :)

Some interesting facts about my current affairs are as follows:
1. I will be holding a stall at Stonyhurst Spring Fair 26-27th of April. It will be a first for me which is not going to be a craft market... It's a really big event, so wish me luck! Also if you are in Lancashire around that time pop by and say hello!
2. For that reason I want to bring out a few new products. I think the current focus is going to be some printed textiles/new screen prints, so eyes open! I am sure I will be posting wips on my facebook page. They will most likely be tea-towels :P

5/52 Fur Bearing Trout

This week is another treat from lumberjack culture. A hairy trout.

4/52: Vodník

This one was requested by my dear friend Šata :)

Vodník is a slavic water demon. I think he is particularly popular in Czech Republik and Slovakia. We "had" him in Poland but I mainly recall him from imported Czech cartoons (which I loved!). He would also appear in fairytales. He does resemble a frog with his green skin and webbed fingers. Another possible inspiration was catfish. Both animals feature on the image and I must say I am very pleased with the catfish ;

This time I did flat colors in Photoshop. I think so far this type of coloring suits my illustrations best - or does it? Whatcha think?

3/52 Jackalope

So here's number three! :) A mythical creature and fairly recent one in a sense, as people still believed they are about only few hundred years ago. All because of some grotesque bunny virus. This specimen has antlers much like reindeer.

I have been experimenting a fair bit with the coloring of these and switching between Photoshop and Manga Studio. I dont think I have found a good way to color these linear drawings but hopefully will get there soon.

This also happens to be my 200th post... I'd say time flies but actually it took quite a while to get there. Can I get to 300 this year? Maybe. Who knows ;)

Here we go then! :) This is the first one, of a bunch of rusałkas - they are slavic creatures that live in the forests, near lakes and streams. They are beautiful, have green hair and will dance you to death. In Poland there is a holiday called "Zielone Świątki" (Green Holidays). It is one of those holidays that have been celebrated by pagan ancestors before catholicism appeared - and originally celebrated these creatures. People would put up feasts for them and dance around bonfires (and apparentely some people sitll do). Currently officially it's Pentecost, a holiday which I personally never really understood. In Poland most people will call it Zielone Świątki.
