Manga Studio Fun part 1 (cattyness!)

Recently I bought Manga Studio under the influence of, well, some stuff I read online and that it was on sale. But truth to be told the one I got was a pretty good value anyway. And on contrary to what name suggests, you don't have to draw exclusively manga on it... The main selling point for me was the fact that it is much better for creating linework than Photoshop. And to be honest, given the low price point (I paid a total of about £50, of which £20 was the shipping from USA) I though: ah, why not treat myself? :P

I haven't really had much time to play with it until now. Although I am still jsut starting out to try all the options, so far I am pretty happy :)

North Lodge

This is a commissioned piece I did back in July. The original is A3 and it was a "portrait" of a house. Drawn from a selection of photos :) It was great fun to do it. I also have a lot of in progress pictures which I am trying to assemble into an animated GIF :P

Drawing Journal

It's all about paint mark and line.

Drawing journal is current college project. It is meant to be researchy-connected to our main project for the year. I decided to just do a series of drawings that will be connected with my main project by a theme, and also use it as a field for researching and working out the way I will draw/paint the final illustrations in. Some of those drawings I like quite a lot, so I decided to put them up here :) It is all drawn in a little journal book which I made specifically for this purpose - it has days of the month marked on each page. Some of the drawings in it are just on one side, others are on both - but since it is a book, there will be a line dividing it in the middle. For the first time this doesn't bother me :)

Swedish dinosaurs

I went to Stockholm a couple of weeks ago, and while I was there I visited Natural History Museum. It resulted in a few drawings:



They aren't as complex as the London ones and there isn't anywhere near as many, but I just didn't feel like painting too much while I was on a holiday...

It's pictures I drew on my London trip in January this year... Just never got around to scanning them. Since I have another bunch of dinosaur drawings I just decided to scan these as well.

End of term!

Last term of this year is coming on Monday. Because of that I am trying to procrastinate as much as possible instead of putting together my portfolio. Here's last bunch of lifedrawings from this year!

Skeletons still life

I was tidying flat today and generally moving stuff around (and chucking some stuff out too) and I came across some of my older paintings. This one I did a wee while ago (when I could still access fake human skeletons), but I still like how it came out (that is, creepy).

My Room

Part three of the project. We were meant to draw a picture of a room, but not art college students room. Apart from that we could do anything we wanted. I did some drawings from Mr Chris' work, which also is conviniently round the corner from there I live. Then I put all drawings on bits of balsa and card and did this 3d room thing. I really enjoyed it since it's been ages since last time I did a sculptury project.

At Home

This is part 2 of the earlier mentioned project. It was to illustrate 3 phases of making a meal. Middle image is my favourite, could live without the others...

Frames are a result of the fact that I recycled old unfinished painting as a ground for the new ones - that's basically where the masking tape was. I really like that effect!

Two collegy drawings again. I certainly prefere portraits than full figure paintings.

Also, the purple one was painted on green paper and there are little bits that show through (that was kind of fun).

Do you usually use this strong colors?
Yeah, except for when I don't.

Riennahera

Marta was kind enough to pose for me couple of days ago. I really enjoy doing stuff from life and a good conversation, so this was good fun :). As much as it might not really look like her that much (that was my first lifeportrait in a while, so need warming up and stuff - yes, excuses) I still quite like it.

Lifedrawing

Some more lifedrawing. I quite liked this session, although covering up model with hideous costumes occured. The first drawing is my favourite, the rest is... Experiments. "There is no failed experiments, just experiments with unexpected results" (or something like that) that Bucky Fuller said.

This is some drawing from a life drawing session. We were supposed to come up with our own costume and background for the model. I didn't really like the idea of covering him up unnecessary fabric when I could draw nakedness, so I went for a costume that wouldn't hide much skin. The rest is just normal lifedrawing stuff.

It's one of lifedrawings I did for one of college projects (called "Drawing surgery", for which we are supposed to... draw!). Initial sketch has been messed with on the computer.

I am actually hoping that I will manage to update pretty regularly. And turn this into a blogfolio type of thing... ONE DAY!
