Origami

So, this is what I was doing most of the day today instead of cooking Easter food. Oh well, we can't have everything! ;)

These animals were hanging around my desk for well over a month with the sole purpose of becoming models to draw from for my next series. And today I thought it is finally the time to do it! Yesterday I created one of my infamous lists that focused on as many things as I can possibly do this weekend before getting back to work (and I will be working loads now as I got a second dayjob - like one is not enough! Or more like, as if three jobs were not enough! ;)). Below is some of what came out of this drawing madness. Now I only need to decide which pictures to use and what to se them for - I really fancy making some earrings too. It feels like the deciding part might end up being the hardest job of all.

My favourite is actually the Japanese Phoenix one (Hou-ou or along those lines - when I am trying to double check it I get bombarded with the Ho-Oh pokemon :P). It's the red one one the left (two of these actually).

Steampunk fox

Cloured up this little fella today :) I hope you like! I still am not sure what got into me, but I just had this sudden urge to draw a steampunk fox, so here he is ;) He will turn into a print soon, methinks... Maybe even a bag!

10 Psychopaths

My friend Riennahera has recently created a list of her favourite male TV-show characters, based on the hotness. I looked at it mostly disapproving her choices and then thought, who would I choose myself? No one, really. I can only think of my favourite characters and they all seem to have one thing in common. None of them are normal. None of them you would really want to meet, perhaps with few exceptions. Yet as characters they are my favouritest. I don’t watch a lot of TV shows, so they will not all originate from them. For starters, guy from my favourite movie of all time.
  1. Ondřej from Samotaři. This is probably one of my favourite films of all time. It was too hard to pick just one character, but here he is... Ondřej is a very successful neurosurgeon that enjoys dressing up as a plumber and stalking people. Particularly girl called Hanka, whom he is obsessed with. Once successful, he then sets everything to fire.

  2.  Continuing the medical theme, my number two is Dr Gregory House, MD. Chances are he will save your life, just before nearly killing you. He also is nasty (another quality I value), sometimes sees dead people and is a genius. Really, the perfect package.

  3. The Red Guy. The most chaotic character I can think of. True love of mine at first sight. Also happens to be the original inspiration behind the Eelcat.

  4. Stuntman Mike, Deathproof. "Hey, Pam, remember when I said this car was death proof? Well, that wasn't a lie. This car is a hundred percent death proof. Only to get the benefit of it, honey, you REALLY need to be sitting in my seat."

  5. Barty Crouch Junior (yes, from Harry Potter) Evil, crazy, devoted to the Dark Lord AND David Tennant at the same time!

  6. Lobo, Lobo. Alien murderer/bounty hunter who killed everyone on his own planet before deciding to go on a “gap year”. Or travelling the universe killing more people... Same thing, really. His best friend is Mr Hook. Nuff said.

  7. Lord Blackwood, Sherlock Holmes (2009). Depraved Adversary. Dabbles in black magic, comes back from the dead... All that in the name of ruling the world. So stylish at the same time.

  8. And the latter ambition he shares with the next character – Brain. "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?"  "The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!"

    Narf!

  9. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, Shutter Island. Seems perfectly sensible up to the point when it turns out he is very far from it.

  10. Marvin Boggs, Red. A great creation, copyright US government. Has received LSD every day for ...a while, and tends to be a bit on the edge most of the time.

365!

Is finished. Is done! Finally! I felt at first like I am finally free but now I just feel like usual ;)
The last tree is probably not as good as I'd like it to be but it's the LAST ONE.
I already did a sort of summary post about the project. I am really glad I did this but even more happy that this is over now! As a warm up project it was perfect. Now I will move on to other things, which will soon be plastered all over here. I am currently working on a new line of jewellery, some new bags and one Super Secret thing that you may hear more about in the near future!

So, watch this space! :)

owl sketches

I haven't done much drawing of this kind for a while now, and thought it would be nice to do it for a change. they are sort of preliminary drawings for some painting things I will be doing soon :) I am looking more and more forward to the tree freedom.

triangular tree

This is the number 350 out of 365. The end is nigh! I m very happy about this actually. It feels like I will get my freedom back! The last 20 trees as well as being bigger take more time to draw. But it's ok as this will be over soon!

What next, is the question. There have been suggestions of bunnies, mythical creatures and some other ones. I am not too sure yet myself. This has been a good, generic brief and the main purpose was to force myself to draw lots post graduation. It worked great, I have also revisited some techniques, eperimented a litttle, turned some of the trees into products. I am just a bit worried it might start feeling empty after this. So I think I might start a new similar project after this one, maybe a few weeks or months after this one is complete. What will it be? No idea. One thing is for sure - the highest frequency will be WEEKLY. Daily is just a bit too much. Perhaps several montly challenges? That could be fun too and it wouldn't get too repetitive, as sometimes I have struggled with inspiration/ideas.

So just hang on with me for a few more days (18th of March will be the final day, if I am not wrong - and I may well be as I am rubbish with dates), and get that celebratory bottle of wine ready for when the time comes ;)
