Masquerade!

A friend of mine is currently doing a project for Culture Shock! Warszawa na Opak (Warsaw Reversed) is about masquerades and carnival in the capital of Poland. I really like the idea and got this image stuck in my head since I learned about the project. And I couldn't get it out. Especially the thin flute playing guy and the guest appearance of Cat Behemoth. I read Master and Margerita so long ago I can't even remember when it was. I loved it so and the supporting characters were my favouries (that is, Koroviov and mentioned above Behemoth). Some may fidn the lady on the right vaguely familiar too...

What surprised me most with this project was how much I enjoyed drawing the buildings (this is part of the Old Town in Warsaw). I havent done any for quite a while and it was really fun. And I was so impressed with the results.

Couple of weeks ago I was pretty lucky to win Sofia Sobeide's giveaway! When it arrived at first I thought it was something from my friend Martyna, whose handwriting is very very similar. But then I saw that it was packet from Finland! Hooray! So it came in a miniature version of a pizza box, which upon opening revealed....

A paper bag from old comics. It was very very cute.

And inside the bag were...

A cute dog brooch and crocheted bunting! Bunting got immediately repurposed to...

...Become a Christmas Tree chain! :) It works perfectly on my sad synthetic tree :)
And then I found that one of the comic pages were actually an old Star Wars Comic. I didn't know Darth Vader could also speak Swedish! :D

I confess - I have been a bad egg. I did not update blog much over past 2 weeks... Reason? I was SUPERCHRISTMASBUSY! (Also got a cold on the way, your typical excuses all the way!). For that I shall make it up to everyone and publish some action shots. In that time I did 3 markets, here's some shots from Noir! the Christmas Fair:

Hello! My name is Ollie. My family calls me puddyfat, and always stresses the "FAT". I really don't understand why. My favourite activities are having dinner, having breakfast, having lunch, I also like to go in the garden sometimes and get a small between-meal snack. I managed to hunt some cocktail sausages too once, but instead of praise I got a telling off! I don't think my family understands me...

Similarly to Mr and Mrs Cat, Ollie agreed to participate in a line of canvas bags. These are ones that feature her little (round) face!

Up and away

I am away for the weekend in a peacefull cottage. I am hoping to draw loads while I am here, including some more new cats to go with the famous working Mr Cat:

A lady Cat is on her way, but so are a few other pictures. It is pretty rainy here, but that only adds to the cosyness. And there is a real fireplace and not much around bar fields and sheep. I totally love it.

I am not sure if I will be able to post thigns on here straight away, but surely will put up some fancy shmancy instagram pictures :)

Malin is not so refreshed... Eelcat certainly is!

And on a side note, I am not refreshed at all either. I had the pleasure of waking up at the middle-of-the-night o'clock, courtesy of a little mousie. I think I could really benefit from an eelcat's company! (Or any other cat for that matter).

Still Growing my Forest!

So today I am a bit snotty and sneezy and the cold medicine seems to only makes it worse and I seem to be whining quite a lot, so I thought I will do at least one positive thing. I haven't written much about this project here lately and I am coming up to the tree number 100 soon! So I thought it might be nice to remind everyone this is still happening (despite few blips along the way). Just to recap: I draw a tree a day for 365 days. I started sometime in March (or February? Can't remember now!) and it's passed wayyy to quickly to notice! Click on the tree on the left to go there!

It just kinda had to be sight seeing here ;) Say hello to big fat catty creature. I am currently away, visiting my family and it feels AMAZING not to be caught up in the usual routine... And have lots of time to draw...

Return

Finally an IF theme that got the cogs in my brain moving ;) I think this is my first one this year. I missed making something bigger again, and this one is a little smaller than A3. It was quite fun. I love working with ink! Even though there ws a little obstacle, as my white ink has decided to solidify without any warning.

Drawing lots of trees :)

So I have decided to do this for REAL. Nearly two weeks ago I started doing this "a ... a day for a year" thing, and my own "..." is tree. You can find them (nearly) daily HERE.

Here are some samples...

 At the moment I feel they are just following a certain pattern, but I am curious to see how they will change over time... Because I am sure that they will! After all this has only been a couple of weeks, and there WILL be loads for sure! :)

Some of the ones I like better have also been turned into brooches...

Kinda for Illustration Friday, kinda for fun. Narwhals are great :) (click on it to see whole picture. Unfortunately I can't fit it in in the original size... It is huuuuuuge!)

Vanity

This is a picture for Illustration Friday. It took me absolute ages to think of what to draw for this topic (I am getting a bit rusty not having don this for a  few weeks), and when I knew what I wanted to do the time started to run out pretty fast. And it was a fairly ambitious thing to take on for a short deadline. I shall stop praising myself now ;)

The image is inspired by a hybrid of witches from Stardust and you good old Evil Queen from Snow White. She kills them to steal their youth (and beauty, and earrings as it seems).

For fullview click here. It was actually only slightly bigger than A4, so I had to scan it in halves and then put it together. It is not my favorite job by any means, especially with hideously detailed line drawings that are very difficult to line up properly.

I just need an A3 scanner now.

Foresty drawing

Now, this is just a picture I drew because I wanted to draw and then scan some liny patterns. They ended up being the grass, as I couldn't stop going :P

Today I saw a man in the best (weird) hat ever. It didn't just have a feather decoration - it pretty much was covered with an entire pheasant. I really want to draw him now, so just wait for that!

Halloween and life of a drawing uncovered.

I know it is still over a month until Halloween, but I am preparing something special Halloween-themed :). This post is a teaser-trailer and my way of working UNCOVERED.

This is a rough guide how this drawing came to life.

1. Sketch number one. Legs are missing - appalling. (Human age equivalent 0-1 months old)

2. Sketch number two. A potential, needing refinement. (Human age equivalent 1-12 months old)

3. Refinement in progress. (Human age equivalent 1-5 years old)

4. Inking complete with extra thing happening on the side. (Human age equivalent 18 years old)

5. Colors done (above), and extras etc cleaned up. (Human age equivalent 21 years old. After that it's not growing up anymore, just ageing).
